The BiB Is Mourning Professor Karl Schwarz
On November 16th, 2014, the former director of the Federal Institute for Population Research (BiB), Professor Karl Schwarz, died at the age of 97 years.
From 1979 until 1982 Dr. Schwarz was the head of the Federal Institute for Population Research. But even earlier he applied himself intensively to the study of population development. From 1953 to 1979 he worked in the German Federal Statistical Office in Wiesbaden. There, he became the head of the department for population statistics in 1968.
During his professional career he was involved in numerous political committees and demographic associations. For two times, from 1976 to 1985 and from 1991 to 1994, he was the 1st chairman of the German Society for Demography (DGD).
Even after 1982 he shared his versatile aquirements from research and policy counselling at the universities of Mainz and Bamberg as a visiting lecturer.
The Federal Institute for Population Research will continually cherish the memory of Professor Karl Schwarz.
