The programme of publications of the Federal Institute for Population Research (BiB) is based on three series of publications following different scientific goals:
- Comparative Population Studies (CPoS) is the flagship of our publications. It is a peer-reviewed interdisciplinary scientific journal on demography and population studies and appears four times a year online and on an open-access basis. Since 2010 all articles are published in English (and some in German as well).
- The Series on Population Studies / Beiträge zur Bevölkerungswissenschaft are monographs or compilations that deal with demographic issues in a fundamental and comprehensive manner. The volumes appear one to three times per year.
- The Population Research Bulletin (Bevölkerungsforschung Aktuell) is a newsletter that appears every second month and informs about research results from the BiB and makes aware of population-science events and new reference material.
Furthermore, at irregular intervals, the BiB publishes brochures. The series BiB Working Paper contain articles from the Federal Institute for Population Research and papers which have been issued in cooperation with other research institutes as well as external researchers. In the context of the series BiB Daten- und Methodenberichte, data set descriptions and technical reports on population surveys carried out by the Federal Institute for Population Research are published.
The Materialien zur Bevölkerungswissenschaft (Materials on Population Studies) were suspended after publishing Volume 129. However, the volumes as of No. 101 (with few exceptions) are still available for download.
