Migration to Europe: A Critique of the New Establishment Consensus*
In: Zeitschrift für Bevölkerungswissenschaft, Vol. 26, 3-4/2001, p. 327-340, Opladen: Verlag Leske + Budrich, ISSN: 0340-2398
In this article the author discusses the essay entitled "Europe's Migration Field" by John Salt. He describes his view of the economic and demographic environment of migration in Europe and analyses the reasons for the renewed interest in the topic of immigration in Europe and in the United Kingdom in particular. Whilst the author considers Salt's critical examination of migration events to be correct, and his conclusions and policy recommendations to be "judicious" and "coherent", he however argues in favour of other approaches to migration policy than those favoured by Salt.
